In order to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you consume. This is called as creating calorie deficit in the body. The trick is to create calorie deficit without causing weakness or spoiling your health.
You need to create calorie deficit in such a manner that the body still has sufficient energy for proper functioning. Below are some tips to help you.
1. Try to lose weight at a gradual pace:
Most people make the mistake of going for very rapid weight loss. While it may be possible to lose some quick weight, but the better option would be to go for weight loss in gradual steps. It can be a good thing if you have monthly or weekly goals.
2. Reduce calorie intake gradually:
Again a mistake people make is to try and drastically reduce their calorie intake when they want to lose weight. If you do so, then your metabolism rate is going to drop and losing further weight can prove to be a problem.
That is the reason why people fail to lose when they go for dieting. It is because they were accustomed to eating a lot of food and suddenly they are starving themselves. This rings alarm bells for your body.
The wise thing to do would be to reduce calories in gradual steps. Don’t try to lessen your food intake so rapidly that you feel extreme difficulty. If you slowly reduce your food intake then you may find it easier to stick to it than if you do it suddenly.
3. Creating effective calorie deficit:
If you want a healthy and permanent weight loss then try to create a calorie deficit of about 200-400 calories a day. This can be done by reducing your food intake, or by exercising more to burn an extra 200-400 calories than you normally would burn during a day.
Or you can use a combination of eating 100-150 less calories and burning 100-150 more calories in a day. As I mentioned in the previous tip, do this on a gradual basis and not all of a sudden.
4. Stop skipping meals:
If you skip meals and keep yourself hungry then chances are your metabolism rate may drop and you might hit the dieting plateau. Dieting plateau is a phenomenon where further weight loss stops after some time for people who embark on starvation diets.
A better alternative would be to eat smaller meals spread throughout the day. This way you will not starve nor will you overstuff yourself. You will be able to keep a steady supply of fuel to your body.
5. Drink water and burn calories
Drink good amount of water daily so that your body always feels energetic and you can burn more calories. Water can be good for boosting metabolism so that calories are burned faster and easily. Keeping yourself hydrated is one of the essential things to do when you are on a weight loss mission.
